Water and Sewer: Specifics of service vary by building. Consult your lease to determine whether you need to establish service.
Internet: At some locations, internet service is included with your lease. Consult your lease to determine if you need to connect your own service.

2. Get Renter’s Insurance

Accidents happen, and having renter’s insurance is required per your lease. Your policy should include a minimum of $300,000 in liability coverage and $5,000 in medical coverage. Your lease specifies the party to list as an additional insured, as this varies by building.

3. Inspect Your New Space

Take a good look around your apartment and fill out the move-in checklist. Document any pre-existing issues—scratches, dents, or malfunctioning appliances—and report them to the management team. This helps ensure you’re not charged for these when you move out.

4. Know the Rules for Your Apartment

Ensure your apartment or house maintains a minimum 60°F to keep your place cozy and prevent pipes from freezing.
